Studio Workshops: Dates and Venues
Description:
My studio workshops are small scale, one day intensive events for up to four people that focus on the topics most important to those attending. Being in my own studio they are very hands on with state-of-the-art equipment and workflows, and complete access to all of my research, archives and library.
Costs:
They also offer a more intimate and specialised experience compared to my larger scale weekend or residential courses, but without incurring the cost of a 1:1 consultation;
I simply divide my day rate ($1000/day + GST) evenly between those attending.
Content:
My studio workshops often cover similar content to what I present in my weekend courses, only in much greater depth and from quite specific points of departure that reflect the needs of those attending. The workshops are also a chance to cover content that is not normally presented in larger courses due to its specialist nature. Because the studio workshops take place in a professional environment much of the content also involves making images for both experimental, analytical and creative reasons. In other words, the experience is that of a working studio more than a class room or lecture theatre. While research and scholarship provides the foundation for my studio workshops, it is material thinking, creating and examining that tends to focus the outcome. That is the advantage of holding them in my studio with all its resources.
Schedule:
The workshops are not timetabled ahead of time but occur in response to enquiries often instigated by individuals or small groups of friends directly approaching me for assistance. For this reason I have also not regularly advertised them. But now that demand for alternative ways of learning and integrating theory and practice is spreading, I will also announce them on my FaceBook page before each event. For country or interstate visitors I often schedule two or three studio workshops back to back, either on a weekend or midweek, in order to maximise their experience and return.
Location:
The venue is in Heidelberg. Victoria, 20 minutes from Melbourne CBD and 25 minutes from Melbourne Airport. The workshop hours are variable and organised to suit those attending, their travel times, flight arrivals and departures, and other commitments.
