Capturing and Processing Images – CCP Weekend Course

Capturing and Processing Images – CCP Weekend Course

Description:
This is the twenty-fifth year that I have offered a weekend education program through the Centre for Contemporary Photography in Melbourne, Australia.  Artists, photographers, designers, curators, scientists, and enthusiasts from across Australia, New Zealand and Asia, both professional and nonprofessional, have attended these courses.  Over this time, moment0us cultural and technological changes have effected all areas of photography; from hardware and software, to image capture, distribution and access, to employment, culture and inheritance.  My research has contributed to this evolution, and our courses constructively help others integrate these profound changes into their lives, their photography, recreation and employment.

Content:
This year we are presenting four different weekend courses at the CCP, repeated each semester.  Each course has been completely rethought and restaged for this year to provide the most relevant and engaging mix of topics and levels of engagement. Together they cover the essential skills underlying contemporary digital photographic practice:

• On Landscape Photography – Peter Dombrovskis
• Capturing and Processing Images
• Photoshopping and Printing Images
• Understanding and Curating Pictures

Our courses are delivered through explanations, investigations, hands-on experimentation, demonstrations, and practical exercises in a focused but entertaining manner.  Discussion and analysis is actively encouraged, while aspects of photographic history and cultural theory expand and contextualise our practice.

Schedule:
The weekend courses run from 10.00am to 4.30pm on both days. While they can be studied sequentially, each course is also presented as a self-contained set of skills that is adapted to individual needs. Each course is therefore a somewhat unique experience as it evolves every time it is presented, while the program overall presents a comprehensive study of contemporary digital photographic practice.  Class sizes are purposely kept small from a minimum of 6 to a maximum of 12 attendees.  Each course has its own resource website with course notes, videos, references, and practical exercises in support of your ongoing learning.

Location:
Our weekend courses are presented in Melbourne at the Centre for Contemporary Photography (CCP), 404 George Street, Fitzroy.  The CCP is Australia’s premier venue for the exhibition of contemporary photo-based arts, providing a context for the enjoyment, education, understanding and appraisal of contemporary practice.  Established in 1986 by the photographic community as a not-for-profit exhibition and resource centre, the CCP has played a pivotal role in the support of photo-based arts and public engagement with photography. In 2005 CCP relocated to purpose designed premises by Sean Godsell Architects.  The CCP’s exhibition program is presented across five exhibition spaces, including the Night Projection Window viewed from George and Kerr Streets after dark, and features a diverse range of photo-based arts from emerging to established artists, and supported by its extensive education and publication programs.

Costs:
CCP Weekend Courses (two day course) are $495 including GST for CCP Members, or $550 including GST for non-members.
